Preferred Entertainment Of Children In The Age Group 9 To 16 In Urban India

Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI), partnered with Asian Center for Entertainment Education (ACEE), to manage its exhibition stall, screening of the film ‘Radio Comes To Rampur’ and panel discussions, which were organized during the Bihar Ek Viraasat Festival, held in Patna, Bihar, in the month of March 2016. Subsequently screenings of the films ‘The Prince and the Crown of Stone’ and ‘Gauru’ which were held in Mumbai, in the month of April 2016, for over 250 students who attended each of the shows; from the Gopi Birla School and the Doorstep School, respectively.

An exploratory study was conducted through Focus Group Discussions and through Questionnaires, which were administered to a select group of children in the age group of 8 to 16, belonging to middle income groups in the State Capital city of Bihar, Patna and in Mumbai; and children in the age group of 8 to 16 belonging to low income groups in the Mumbai slums. An interesting analysis emerged in a report on the preferred entertainment of the respondents and the children as they expressed their aspirations and anxieties.
